The expansion of our project management service over the past twenty years has been built upon the quality of the service offered to both new and existing clients and our ability to deliver complex construction projects to time and on budget on a consistent basis.
For more than six decades Fanshawe has provided expert cost consultancy services on construction projects with a wealth of experience.
Fanshawe is a medium size consultancy, with an established track record of working with many new and existing properties and structures, many involving complex solutions and special consideration. Our knowledge and experience of this wide range of work enables us to understand the key requirements of our clients and resolve the likely issues that may occur. We endeavour to understand how our Clients run their organisations and assist in delivering long term solutions that meet the Client's requirements, whilst always providing value.
Fanshawe employs people with a wide range of business skills – including cost consultants, risk and value management, capital allowances and building services cost consultants.
We take a very “hands-on” approach to the challenges presented on each project. By listening and responding to the demands of our Clients we tailor our services to meet their needs. Our success is based on analysing our Clients’ objectives and then combining practical industry knowledge with the energy, skill, lateral thinking and the level of commitment necessary for each task.
Due to their importance, it is essential to have a detailed understanding of building services which is why Fanshawe add significant value to projects through our specialist in-house, highly motivated building services surveyors, who with their knowledge of building services can challenge design solutions to generate significant cost savings at no detriment to the design solution.
As a practice we believe in setting realistic budgets. Using industry standard pricing mechanisms linked to our in-house database of building services costs, enables us to produce detailed and accurate estimates based on relevant historic data.
Building services, in recent years, have become increasingly complex and critical and, with issues such as Parts L & P of the Building Regulations and BREEAM, Well, LEED and the like, will continue to have major implications on construction processes and costs. Our direct project experience includes considering renewable energy options such as air source and ground source heating and cooling, photovoltaics, solar water heating, biomass boilers, combined heat and power, wind generation, thermal stores, rainwater recovery and the like.
We also add value in a number of other ways during the pre-contract stage. This includes a detailed review of building services engineers’ tender documents to ensure that items within the estimate have been included and highlighting any discrepancies or ambiguities in the documents, so minimising the potential for contractors' claims.
We produce our own tender documents, which provides greater cost certainty for post contract variations, and thoroughly examine tender returns to identify exclusions and caveats. We ultimately agree fair final accounts, rather than inflated costs due to a lack of in-house expertise.
Whilst our specialist building services surveyors work as part of the team they also provide an independent building services quantity surveying service to contractors and other consultants who lack the necessary in-house expertise to offer the specialist cost advice to their clients. If you require more information on the building services quantity surveying service offered by Fanshawe please contact Martin Norburn.
